Pioneer started looking for a better grocery point of sale system in early 2002. Their focus set on features that would make checkout more pleasant. Dave Keray, a manager at Pioneer Cash & Carry, notes that “The most noticeable part of being checked out in a grocery store is how long you are waiting. The shorter the checkout, the happier the customer. One thing we love about Cash Register Express is the Internet based credit card processing.” Customers at Pioneer can swipe their credit card by themselves, and wait less then three seconds for the point of sale to approve the card. “Most of the big name grocery stores take over fifteen seconds to process your card. Our customers our happy that we get the latest technology, they appreciate the ways we've found to speed up checkout.”

Pioneer is the leading Indian grocery store in their area, and chose a grocery point of sale system with the leading built-in technology. According to Dave, “We do everything we can to give our customers the best shopping experience possible. The average person that shops in a grocery store likes to make sure they are being charged the right price.” Pioneer has a 17-inch LCD customer display at each of their three registers, which shows the customers the last few items that were scanned, along with the price charged for those items, on the top portion of the screen. The remaining two-thirds of the screen is used to display advertisements and specials in animated fashion. “Our customers have frequently commented very favorably to this. We get very few 'what is this on my receipt?' questions, as people see what is
being charged as the item is rung up.”
