Train Your Cashiers in Minutes Ease of use was a very important feature that Matt Rupena, owner of Rupenas, was looking for when choosing his grocery point of sale system. We looked at a lot of grocery POS systems before switching from our old system. Our store is open seven days a week and I wanted something that the cashiers would have no problem picking up. Matt picked Cash Register Express, CRE, a point of sale system that is easy to learn and use. CRE has many touch screen buttons such as the quick-payment buttons, that allow you to end a transaction by cash, check, credit card or on account with the touch of one button.

Every Lane is Express At Rupenas, it is common that someone will come in for a gallon of milk, and end up leaving with that plus some fresh rolls, deli salads and a few steaks for dinner. Very few people check out with fewer than ten items. Matt was looking to speed up checkout, and adopting PC America's internet based credit card processing was a great way to do that. My customers and I are both amazed at how fast the credit cards process. The card is swiped, and in less than two seconds the receipt prints with an approval. It used to take well over twenty.

Technology Touches Rupenas The grocery point of sale system at Rupenas features the latest technology available in the grocery industry. Each register includes a touch screen monitor, which is used with Cash Register Express, CRE, for many one touch functions, and also for the built-in touch screen lookup. According to Matt, The touch screen lookup is another feature that sets Cash Register Express above the rest. My cashiers don't have to remember produce codes; instead, they touch the lookup button, touch produce, and touch apples. As soon as apples are selected, the scanner-scales automatically weigh the apples and charge the correct price. Cash Register Express supports the new Sunrise 2005 bar code regulations, which increases the number of digits in a UPC bar code to 14.
Many grocery stores will have to replace their system to support this. Matt said I am happy that my system is already compliant, and has been for years. When the new bar codes hit the shelves, I don't have to make a single system change. PC America and CRE seem to be on top of the latest technology.
